The Rise of the iPod Repair Man

Brought to you by Podimus.com, the iPod broken screen repair experts.

The newly-released iPod classic has a serious design flaw that very few people are aware of: the metallic silver back half has been re-designed to prevent it from being removed. On earlier iPod models, like the previously-released 5th Generation Video iPod, one could separate the two halves using a do-it-yourself iPod battery replacement kit or, in a pinch, a metal screwdriver.

On the iPod classic, however, a series of small metal teeth have been added to the design. These teeth surround all four sides of the interior of the iPod classic and, once the two halves of the player are pressed together during assembly, the clips engage and that's it - the unit is sealed up like an Egyptian tomb. This makes it very challenging to replace an iPod classic battery.

With earlier iPods, if the LCD cracked, or the hard drive failed, or the battery stopped holding a charge, the average consumer could either perform the repair themselves or send it to a third party iPod service company like ipodjuice.com to do it for them. Now that these newer models are being designed with close-once-and-never-open-again cases, this drastically reduces the possibility that you will be able to repair your iPod on your own without having to engage Apple. And as most people know by know, iPods seem to fail or need service shortly after the warranty expires.

It will probably be a few months before this issue surfaces to the general public. It's quite likely that the saavy consumer will conclude that, in the long run, it may be better to keep their older model iPod up and running since they have self-service options available for them instead of upgrading to newer iPod model that can never be repaired.

There are a few iPod battery installation companies out there that are working on ways to open the new iPod classic without destroying the back half of the player in the process, but only time will tell if they will be successful or not.

Comparing the Zune and the iPod

Brought to by the iPod Broken Screen Repair experts at Podimus.com

Say hello to the days when you can start enjoying unlimited access to music. Microsoft has already confirmed that its next generation Zune player is due for release in September 2009. Geared up to challenge Apple's iPod Touch, Microsoft zune-s touch screen, Web surfing, high-definition movie and digital radio features are bound to make waves this fall.

The next generation of Microsoft's Zune line has made just the kind of multi-media player tripped out of our dreams. With the basic pre-released features such as 3.3-inch 480x272 oled capacitive touch screen display, built-in radio receiver, HD output via a new dock, and a famed squicircle to complement this multi-touch device, Microsoft Zune HD presents a plethora of touch-friendly applications and games. Boasting an IE based customized browser, it is bound to surprise all tech enthusiasts with its software features.

For instance, Microsoft Zune-s extends its video service to Xbox live. Hence, this will mark a milestone in Zune strategy to bring the Zune brand effectively to more than 17 million international Xbox live subscribers and enthusiasts. Add up its next generation portable media player features, it will be the very first portable media player to include built-in hd radio receiver, organic light emitting diode (oled) touch screen, wi-fi, high-definition video output capabilities and internet browser capabilities. Since the music player is an integral part of the Microsoft Zune HD experience, the product proudly marks a turning point of next generation portable multimedia players in offering cross-platform experiences and premium video content to customers all over the world.

Talking about storage capacities, crucial numbers are yet to be unveiled. However, it seems like such information will be a big piece of news.

Zune vs. iPod: At first look, Microsoft Zune-s gives you a solid, sexy and expensive look, thanks to its slim and sleek appearance. Its angular enclosure perfect compared to the curvy chrome body of iPod Touch, which did not have ergonomic advantage as it is wider and is quite a handful to hold on to. Now let's take a look at Zune oled display. Zune's touch screen is covered with glass; every single button behaves like a normal button. On its top edge, you will find its power button, which also triggers lock screen. An iPhone-like volume rocker is placed on the left edge, which carries a headphone jock and the Zune dock. Actually, it used the same Wolfson dac that is popularized by the previous Zune models.

On the output specs, Zune is designed to support 720p video content, with software that can directly be purchased at the Zune marketplace software. It also ushers the return of eq, running an Nvedia tegra chip. Though nothing is fancy in this regard, knowing that your portable media player can face a few of presets, such as acoustic, rock, hip-hop and so more, with no user setting is sure good news.

Now let's talk about value. Some stores have leaked the pre-order pricing of Microsoft zune-s to be $220 for 16GB Zune hd and $290 for 32 GB Zune hd. This gives about a $79 value on its 16GB model and about $109 for its 32 GB model. These make Zune cheaper than iPod Touch. Feature by feature, iPod Touch may closely compete with Microsoft zun hd but Zune's pricing advantage sets the big difference.

Recycling Your Old iPod

Article brought to you by Podimus, the iPod screen repair specialists.

As there has been very few iPod recycling programs in the past many people would have simply put their old iPod in the bin where it would end up on landfill sites and subsequently cause damage to the environment. With the recent boom in the mobile recycling industry, iPods are now being looked at as being much more valuable items. Many mobile phones recycling companies have now started offering people the chance to return their old iPods for cash payments.

There are also some charities in the UK that offer an iPod recycling service to consumers. Once you have returned your old iPod they may either sell the internal parts for cash and then donate the money to the charities they support. Alternatively they may just donate the whole iPod to people in other countries that don't have the money to afford portable music devices.

The other option that allows you to earn some money for yourself is to send your old iPod into one of the many online mobile recycling companies that now exist. These companies originally started out just recycling mobiles but as they got more popular they have moved onto other electronic devices such as iPods and iPhones.

One you have located one of these specialist online iPod recycling companies simply enter the model number of your iPod or select it from the list, on the following screen you will be given a quote, if you are happy with the price quoted simply send it in using the address provided. Once your old iPod has been received it will be checked over and then you will be sent your payment via either cheque or bank transfer. This is a great way to sell your old iPod and at the same time help to save the environment.

IPod Repair: An Overview

Did you know that if your IPod breaks or starts acting funny that it can be repaired? Too many people think that because this technology is small that it is beyond repair. This simply is not the case. IPods can be repaired and, in many cases, it is cheaper to have it repaired than to buy a new one.

Where should you go to get your IPod repaired? Most people would first look at an Apple shop. Apple shops are popping up across the country and if you live near a large city chances are you’ll find one close by.

Apple shops are a great place to visit if your IPod is under warranty but what do you do if it isn’t? The Apple shops are likely going to be your most expensive option because they have a corner on the market for IPod distribution. Use your brain and wits and find another place.

Use Modern Technology for Your IPod Repair Needs

There is a growing market of private companies who are willing to repair your IPod. Just use the internet and do a few searches for things like ipod repair, ipod screen repair, and ipod battery repair and see what turns up. There may be someone local or you can use one of the firms that serve the nation.

If you have an older version of the IPod then you may want to consider buying a new one because it can be very expensive to get old parts. Some companies offer free testing of your IPod and may be willing to buy it from you so they can harvest the parts. In some cases this may be your best option even if you don’t get back what you think the technology is worth. Apple has more than 10 versions of the IPod and the technology is still fairly new (less than 10 years old) so it is still evolving quickly. The IPod you bought two years ago may be outdated already.

Repairing Your IPod On Your Own

If you’re a brave and adventurous soul than you may want to repair your IPod on your own. Before you scoff at the idea know that many people picked up a nice side business doing this and many of them are self-taught. If your IPod is already broken and outdated why not give it a try? At worst you’ll still have a broken IPod. At best you’ll repair your IPod and pick up some side money helping your friends do the same thing.

Which Option Is Best For You?

Ideally your IPod would never break and you would never have any issues with it. However everyone knows this is not the case. Your music player will get dropped, bumped, wet, and beat up. Repairs are bounded to be needed. For most folks getting it repaired would be the best option because it puts your music into the hands of experts who have done this kind of thing before. One Ipod repair company I’ve used in the past is called Podimus and I can recommend them.

If you don’t mind taking risks (and own your own soldering iron) then self-repair might be the best option for you. Working with your hands might be the best way to fully appreciate the advanced technology in the IPod.
