VoIP vs. Traditional

Thinking about the Microsoft Response Point Phone System? Read this:

VoIP is a relatively new technology that facilitates voice communication over the internet. In other words, VoIP services use the broad band internet connection to transmit the data packets as opposed to the wires in a conventional telephone. In the following paragraphs, we'll see a brief comparison between VoIP services and traditional phone services.

The biggest plus of VoIP services, as opposed to traditional phone services, is its easy installation features and low cost. What all one may need to start using VoIP is a PC, broadband connection, and an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA), which the VoIP service provider will offer to the customer as part of the deal. There is no costly infrastructure and with the ATA in place, one can use his/her normal telephone to make VoIP calls. Regarding cost, most VoIP services charge as less as $25 for all the features (such as caller id, call waiting, conference facilities, and call transfer) while traditional phone services are more costly with separate tariffs for long distance and local calls.

Another aspect that differentiates VoIP services and traditional phone services is the formers' flexibility. That is, while normal telephones are permanently linked to the telephone lines, ATAs can be taken anywhere in the world along with you. Then, by attaching it to a normal telephone and an internet connection, you can make VoIP calls to any other ATA in the same network for no additional cost.

Again, with VoIP services, the customer can opt to own virtual telephone numbers in any place covered by the VoIP provider. That is, if you want your friends or peers in another state to be able to make calls to your VoIP phone without any additional cost or for local call cost, what all you have to do is to get a telephone number in that state and have the respective call routed to your ATA irrespective of your current physical location. By doing so, the maximum the caller may have to shell out for calling you will be the cost for a local call. This is a facility that is non-existent in the traditional phone services domain.

Finally, taxing is less on VoIP services. Apart from the Federal Excise Tax, VoIP services carry no other taxing while a traditional phone service billing includes numerous taxes and other surcharges. That is, while it is possible for you to use a full fledged VoIP service for $20.5 (say), you can own a traditional phone as well for the same price, but might have to pay the same money monthly without even picking it up for making a call once.

Now, here are some of the disadvantages of VoIP services over traditional phone services. VoIP is power dependent. That is, if the power supply goes off, VoIP facility also goes redundant just like your cordless phone or air conditioner. Functional glitches can also arise if the broadband connection or its switch develops some technical problem.

From the foregoing, it is clear that VoIP services are better than traditional phone services in most of the counts. But, amongst the VoIP service providers itself, there can be difference in tariffs and schemes, and hence you may need to do a bit of market research before eventually zeroing in on a particular service provider. Keep in mind, the benchmark for your study must be the facilities and services offered by the player and not necessarily the cheapest VoIP provider for it is the quality of service that matters in the end. Good Luck!

Doing Christmas Shopping Online

With the rising cost of gasoline, many Christmas shoppers are turning to the internet to find some of the items on their Christmas shopping list. With the aid of the internet search engines, it is possible for Christmas shoppers to pinpoint the location of hard-to-find items and have them shipped exactly where they need to go. Finding discounts from online retailers is an easy thing to do too and people love the convenience that internet shopping provides them.

Internet shopping for Christmas gifts can be fine-tuned to fit the needs of every family. To find clothing items in a specific age range, an internet shopper can find great sales and the latest styles in everything from jeans to party dresses that will be worn for Christmas dinner and church on Sunday by using the address line on their home computer to shop at a brand name store that they trust.

Through the internet, Christmas shoppers can find decorations for the home at a fair price and feel confident that they can return what does not fit to the retailer. Some people wonder how they can do this because they think the retailer is so far away. Online shoppers know all the rules about shopping online, especially after they have spent some time carefully reviewing the store's return policies online at their website.

While Christmas shopping online is fun and convenient to do, there might still be some skeptics in the world that worry about the security of the websites and the personal information that they are asked to provide. The security features online have been strengthened to meet the needs of today's smart shoppers, and the retailers have spent a lot of their own cash purchasing encryption software that ensures that all credit card and banking information is kept safe always.

Some Christmas shoppers choose to start shopping for Christmas early in the year. They know that there will be many holidays before Christmas and those holidays will bring great discounts to shoppers. With specific items in mind, they can access the internet and look for discount coupon codes that can be used to buy the items that they need, while still taking advantage of the major discounts offered because it is a holiday sales period.

Holidays are a specific time of the year that online shoppers can mark on their calendars as days to save money and time. To budget conscious shoppers, the holiday shopping represents a chance to gain a foothold on holiday expenses and define what the payments will be on any credit cards that they make their holiday purchases with. By shopping for Christmas online, shoppers can keep track of all of their holiday spending and know first hand what to include on the budget for the New Year.

One other factor that makes shopping online so fantastic is that holiday shoppers can find great deals on a variety of items and be exposed to unique items that they might not have considered but realize are perfect for the special people in their lives. They can also save a lot of cash by shipping items directly to people that live out of town and save money on gasoline that they would have used by driving all over the town to get their Christmas shopping finished.

Save money while shopping online with....

Skiing Tips

Thinking of skiing at a Durango Mountain Resort?

From a human movement and performance standpoint, there are some areas of the body that an improved awareness of may actually make the Ski Season of 08-09 the best one yet! While the lower body gets most of the attention in the gym due to the "leg burn" that we ALL have felt, it would be a form of neglect to not train the areas north of the hips.

It is impossible to "single out" one part of the body since the human body is ONE unit and that if one area of the body is "off," then every other will be effected. To simplify this concept, identifying the importance of 5 specific areas of the body or 5 Stations can help illustrate how a deficiency on one part of the chain will effect the other parts of the chain. To no surprise, these 5 Stations span the entire body.

The 5 Stations are the foot/ankle, the knees, the hips, the lumbar spine and the thoracic spine. Further, these areas are assigned to be either an area of stability or mobility (original idea from Gray Cook and Mike Boyle). So if we look at all 5 Stations it should (hopefully) look like this:

  1. Foot/Ankle - Mobile

  2. Knees - Stable

  3. Hips - Mobile

  4. Lumbar Spine - Stable

  5. Thoracic Spine - Mobile

You may note that all these areas alternate from being an area of mobility or stability. Based on these guidelines, if the role of the area changes (due to injury, overuse, lack of proper training, etc.), then the role of the following areas MUST change due to how the body compensates.

For today, let's get into the foot/ankle and we will cover the other 4 stations at a later date. For example, let's assume (very carefully) that my foot/ankle becomes more stable than mobile. Now, if a particular task requires my foot/ankle to be mobile (and it doesn't have it because it is more stable) then it WILL get the mobility from somewhere else. Often, this extra mobility may come from somewhere where we don't want it to come from (knees or lower back...OUCH!). What ends up happening is a domino effect in which every station will start to change it's role (either being an area of stability or mobility) which throws the entire chain "out of whack."

How will the body compensate for a foot/ankle that is not mobile enough? If someone is given the command to squat down and their ankles don't move too well, they will typically more more at the hips to make up what they don't have at the foot/ankle joint. Think about this for yourself...as you sit into your chair, do you decend into a smooth squat where you bend at the feet/ankles, knees and hips? Or on your way down do you reach a point where you just "fall" into your chair...possibly due to a lack of mobility in the foot/ankle complex??

How about on the slopes? A skier and snowboarder is required to "flex" into their boots during a number of different times throughout the day on the mountain. If there is restricted movement in the foot/ankle, what will the compensation look like? Perhaps a skier will be more prone to be a "back-seat" skier and the snowboarder will begin to flex more at the hips to get closer to the snow?

These are only speculations, however by applying the laws of human function to the slopes, logic can tell us that something less than optimal will occur. Now, this does not mean that one cannot successfully get down the slopes...its just that you may have to work a little harder, thats all! Offset this with the cost of a lift ticket, gas to get to the mountain and the cost of gear and now it becomes that much more difficult to get "your moneys worth!"

Internet Marketing is Better than Print Marketing

Driven by Internet technology, owners must change how they run their businesses. Colorado Springs Internet marketing and the tools created to effectively apply this approach offer exciting opportunities to learn about and communicate your niche market.

Millions of web sites offer a limitless supply of information about virtually any topic you can name. Similarly, the World Wide Web allows to promote your goods and services to millions of people, anywhere in the world.

A Broader Scope & Better Profile

Today, the Internet is as as important a marketing tool as print advertising was 2 decades ago. In many respects it is also better than print advertising

Using Internet technology, you gather useful information on any subject from any on-line source, anywhere in the world. No longer are we bound by the physical constraints imposed by hard copy books and resources or bricks and mortar research facilities.

By the same token, you are no longer restricted to promoting your services to residents of your local market. If you serve or want to serve people moving into your niche market a good web presence will help you connect with people, long before they even arrive in your area.

And as an added bonus, a sound web presence helps confirm that you are current and up-to-date, on top of what's happening in your local market.

Why Internet Marketing is Better Than Print Advertising

Referrals are the best source of new business

Every successful sales person knows that referrals and word-of-mouth recommendations generate the most new business than anything comes from. Many experts suggest that at least 85% of new business comes referrals and word-of-mouth recommendations.

And what's better, referral marketing is usually free or very low cost.

Despite the advantages of referral marketing, many businesses, including real estate sales people continue to spend huge amounts money on conventional print and hard-copy.

Perhaps they feel that they must advertise, just because everyone else is advertising. Whatever the reason for print advertising, it invariably generates less new business than referrals and costs a whole lot more.

Spend your advertising dollars wisely to generate more referrals: create a web presence with lots of great Internet marketing tools.

Print advertising adds to the commercial clutter

Every day consumers are bombarded by thousands and thousands of advertising messages in every media imaginable. Even well designed and effectively presented real estate listings add to this clutter.

To cope with this overload, most of us ignore the advertising that surrounds us.
Why spend money on print advertising if few people will actually read and respond to it. The sad truth about print advertising is that most of is ignored.

The Internet is today's most effective and widely used information resource. Most web-surfers are looking for sound ad reliable information. By offering useful information on your web site, you can attract new visitors; new information keeps them coming back.

Print advertising is not environment-friendly

Producing print advertising consumes a lot energy and generates a huge volume of greenhouse gases.

Harvesting the trees...processing the wood into pulp...transporting the pulp to the mills...converting this wood into paper products...transporting the waste to a disposal site and the paper products to printers ...transporting print advertisements to intended readers.

Internet marketing costs less and does more

The cost of developing and maintaining a web presence is minimal when compared to cost of annual print advertising.

Internet marketing helps generate referrals. You can use social media to connect with your network contacts so they can tell other people about you and how you help clients.

The Internet is a very busy and often confusing place. Fortunately the your website has a specific and unique. Directed by your your business cards, family, friends and other contacts, prospects can easily find and visit your web site with minimal distraction and disruption.

When visitors like what they see on your site, they will probably also like you enough to initiate contact with you. And is they really like what they see on your site, they will probably tell others about the site. That's how web traffic grows.

Isn't it time that you invested more in Internet marketing instead of continuing to waste money on print advertising?

Hand-Painted Russian Lacquer Boxes

Lacquer Boxes have a long and storied history through the ages. These boxes first started in Russia as a way to design icons during the age of Russian imperialism. When the Czar fell the industry morphed into one that catered to the history of the country (minus the religious aspect -- which was outlawed under Communism).

Papier-mâché boxes and the lacquering of them grew into a large industry. There were the old schools including Fedoskino, Palekh, Khouly, and Mstyora. Each school has its own unique style that is easy to identify with minimal training. Boxes from these school are very expensive but you can purchase lacquer boxes in these styles for affordable prices.

More Evidence that Spirulina Reduces Cholesterol

The health benefits of spirulina range from immune-boosting and stress-fighting to detoxifying and energizing. These benefits can be attributed to spirulina’s incredible nutritional profile. And recent research has shown that supplementing daily with spirulina, a type of blue-green algae or cyanobacteria, may reduce high cholesterol and hypertension—factors associated with heart disease. (Torres-Duran PV, Ferreira-Hermosillo A, Juarez-Oropeza MA. Lipids Health Dis. 2007 Nov 26;6:33.)

After six weeks of supplementing with spirulina, subjects saw significant improvement in their LDL (bad) cholesterol levels as well as reduced blood pressure—without making changes to their diets or lifestyles.

Ski in Purgatory - Durango, Colorado

Brought to you by the good folks of Ski Durango:

Long before skiing was a sport, skis were actually utilized for both transportation and work alike. Located in Sweden, the oldest ski known to man is short, wide and believed to be around 4500 years old. However, ancient rock and cave drawings reveal that skis may have existed even earlier than 4500 years ago. Originally, travelers or hunters may have used skis since they were used quite commonly during the extended winter months in Scandinavia and Northern Russia. Speed was a non-issue when making the early designs of skis as they were needed more to keep people on the snows surface while they moved around and traveled.

When looking into the history of downhill skiing, peoples indigenous to the Telemark region of Norway were credited with, in the 1700's, taking skiing and turning it into a sport. They also are credited with inventing both the Christie and the Telemark turns to control downhill descent speeds. And with a fondness of alpine ski jumping, these pioneers brought into existence the disciplines of Nordic and Alpine skiing. Of course the distinctions we make today between various skiing disciplines were not made hundreds of years ago. In fact, early renditions of skis simply had a boot which was secured to your ski at the toe area only, leaving your heel free to either move down or up. This is now what we call a Nordic style ski.

As you begin to look more closely into the history of downhill skiing, you will surely find that, in the 1800's, the original organized jumping, skiing and cross country events took place. And into the 1900's skiing began to flourish as the Norwegians neighbors, the Europeans, began to discover how enthralling skiing could be. During that time period, Nordic style equipment was still heavily used. This fact is highlighted in 1924 with the advent of the first Winter Olympic Games in Chamonix, France. The games only featured five sports while the two skiing events were Nordic. Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping. And in 1932, the Winter Olympic Games opened in Lake Placid, NY and featured Cross Country Skiing as a new Olympic sport.

And as skiers forged on and tackled ever more difficult terrain, their equipment and skill levels needed to adapt to these challenges. This is because turns like the Telemark were sufficient for Norway's rolling, flat terrain but lacked the necessary control that is crucial for European slopes such as the Alps. Hence, this is how the idea of Alpine skiing was born. When reading about the history of downhill skiing, you will find that Alpine skiing equipment utilizes a boot which is mounted to a ski with both the heel and toe section of the boot attached to it. This provides the skier with more control in order to ski faster and negotiate steep terrain.

Slalom and downhill Alpine skiing came into being using this newer and more modern equipment. In fact, in the Winter Games in Austria in 1936, the first alpine skiing event was introduced to the Olympics. It was called the combined. Also during the period of the 30's, Europeans took up alpine skiing and its popularity continued to steadily climb. During this time, the first ski lifts were constructed which cancelled out the physically draining task of climbing up a mountain before descending. After World War II, ski areas began to open up when Switzerland and Austria developed Alpine ski resorts.

In 1952 at the Oslo Winter Olympics, the new discipline dubbed Giant Slalom was debuted. The GS actually combined aspects form previous alpine skiing disciplines. And Super G, a Downhill and Giant Slalom hybrid, was the fourth alpine skiing discipline added to both the 1988 Winter Olympic Games and the 1983 World Cup events as well. Over this period of time, skiing equipment manufacturers have been developing safer, faster equipment as athletes have taken and combined the new equipment with a higher skill level and better training in order to improve all facets of this sport. As the debate continues on about which skiing discipline is the premiere one, we know one thing for sure. All styles of skiing are growing in popularity, and skiing can be enjoyable for an entire lifetime.

Anyone needing a reliable business communication system can use a VoIP phone system and save on costs. The calls are transmitted over a data network instead of phone lines in a VoIP phone system. By improving the connectivity and flexibility, these systems enable improved business productivity.

Amazing Features that Cater to Business Needs

A virtual PBX system is implemented using dedicated connections. A VoIP phone system can offer communication capabilities which match that of the multinational companies. They have all the features of a high-end premise based PBX system, but they are made available at a fraction of the cost. The advanced features integrated in the hosted system include: dial by name, dial by extension, virtual receptionist, auto attendant, find me follow me call forwarding, music on hold, call transfer, caller ID, voicemail, fax mail, web administration and so on. The auto attendant system can be programmed to greet the callers with a professional sounding greeting message.

Hosted IP PBX telephone systems virtually empower small business owners to operate their businesses without being physically present in the office. The service providers can offer toll free numbers and local numbers with the area codes of your favored city. The calls to these virtual numbers will be routed to the appropriate destination through high bandwidth Internet connections, regardless of the distance to be covered. The call forwarding facility utilizes a set of predefined phone numbers associated with the person to track him. If the call remains unattended even after several rings, the callers will be directed to a voicemail system, where they can leave their messages. Users can check these voicemail messages from any part of the world on a computer having Internet connection.

Highly Scalable, yet Affordable

Virtual VoIP phone systems do not require any equipment to be purchased or installed. All the required switching equipments and software are maintained at the service provider's site itself. As these systems have a considerable amount of scalability, their connections and features can be extended as and when needed. Since the hosted PBX service is shared among multiple users, the cost that the individual user has to incur is rather low. Considering all the benefits included, it is best to use a VoIP phone system and save on costs.
