Spirulina Supplements

It took only about 24 hours for my contract web designer to make a great looking spirulina supplements website. It should be up later tonight or sometime tomorrow.

I've spent much of the last week looking for a spirulina supplier and I've come across one in India that seems to be the cream-of-the-crop. The suppliers name is Parry Nutraceuticals and their spirulina product is pretty amazing -- USDA certified organic, certifed kosher, and certified halal. I haven't been able to find anyone that comes close to that quality. PLUS, they are used by at least one national brand who has done their own due-dilegence into the product. Hopefully they'll be willing to let me order a small amount off the bat (500-1000 bottles worth). This, of course, assumes that my test marketing goes well.

Either way, I'm excited to have my spirulina website up and running (almost). I'll keep everyone updated as we go.

New Project Underway

I've started a new project to manufacturer and sell a vitamin supplement called spirulina. During my market research it seemed as if there are only a few players in the market and all but one of them are competing for the low-end of the market. That means (in theory) that there is a HUGE gap on the high end of the market and a large need for a spirulina product that is deemed "high quality".

Why am I starting out on yet another venture? I've been reading a book this week called The Four Hour Work Week that talks about automating your life and taking control of that time.

I'll be writing more about spirulina in a future post and all of its health benefits. But the next step in the process is to test the market viability of the product.

That's all for now!

Leather Sectional Sofas

I still live like a college kid. I guess it isn't bad in some ways -- I'm close to 30 and I'm still clinging to my youth. But when I look around my living room and family room the most expensive piece of furniture is the used wooden bar I have. It used to be the check-out desk at a furniture store. All that solid oak and venere was mine for $100. My used fouton from 5.5 years ago cost me only $50.

However, I do hope to make more money soon to purchase some new furniture -- I think a leather sectional sofa might be nice, right in front of my flat screen HDTV. :) It just seems a little more grown up to have a fine piece of furniture. Plus, it would be great for watching the game or entertaining guests. I'll just need to figure out a way to keep my dog Maggie off of it.

Discount HDTVs

My website, eHalfOff.com, is quickly moving up the rankings for various keywords. However, recently I've seen a lot of movement for the phrase discount HDTVs.

I've been able to scrap off some fringe traffic for things like flat panel and flat screen hdtvs. And why not? HDTVs, if you haven't seen one, gives a clear picture that is superior to traditional TV. I wasn't sure how great the contrast between the two was until a buddy of mine showed me the same channel side-by-side. WOW! What a difference that made. Ever since I've had a HDTV on my wish list.

I'm hoping to eventually get a flat screen hdtv to mount on the wall in my living room. Saturday mornings watching Clemson football won't ever be the same! Nothing is better than watching he Orange and White on a warm fall day.

New Feature!

I've added a brand new feature to eHalfOff.com in an effort to make it one of the best discount websites out there: a Discount Shopping Blog.

The blog will be updated frequently with all of the best discounts that Overstock.com has to offer. For example, today I posted over $100 off a large HDTV, 10% off watches and other kinds of jewelry and many others.

Building the Discount Shopping Website Continues

I'm continuing to build my discount shopping website: eHalfOff.com. Right now I'm waiting on my contractor to add products to my discount furniture section. I paid him $150 over a week ago and I haven't seen anything added yet -- which makes me nervous. The total contract was for $300 -- we'll see what happens.

I've been keeping an eye on my search logs and I'm ranking very well for the phrase "discount shopping websites" and "black leather sectional sofas" as well as their own variations. I'm hoping to see my placement go up for best discount shopping websites. Right now I'm around #9.

Shopping Online is Less Expensive

A new article brought to you by the discount shopping website eHalfOff.com!

You won't find me racing to a retailer for a 7 a.m. door-buster sale.

Ever.

Instead, my holiday-shopping strategy starts with doing what Santa does: making a list.

Then I'll shop online -- at any time of day. Many retailers are offering generous free-shipping deals right now, so it makes sense to save yourself from impulse buys at the store. The only temptation you'll need to avoid online is the "you may also like" link.

For example, Sears is offering free shipping on mailable orders of $49 or more, plus a 10% discount this week, when the retailer, owned by Sears Holdings reinstated the so-called Cyber Monday. Shipping is also free for most Home Depot orders of $49 or more. Free gift boxes are available online from Ann Taylor this week, and orders of at least $125 are eligible for free shipping, or $6 three-day shipping. We also took advantage of 99-cent gift-wrapping at Amazon.com last month.

Even when there are no real shipping deals, I find that online shopping generally costs less than racking up impulse buys at the store.

My strategy will certainly help ease my jangled nerves. It seems that everywhere I turn, voices are screaming at me to buy things. A male voice announcing "the lowest prices of the season" echoes in my head.

This Thanksgiving, I was grateful for DVR and OnDemand. Mercifully, I didn't have to listen to bellowing sales pitches.

But I still can't walk down my driveway without a retailer dangling a carrot about a so-called great deal. The circulars in my local paper convey urgency: 25% OFF YOUR ORDER BETWEEN 6 and 10 A.M.!! BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR!! I promptly dump the entire haul into my recycling can.

Let's face it, buying something just because Sears or Best Buy says it's on sale is rarely a bargain at all -- unless it's something that I truly need or want, such as the new refrigerator we bought this summer. My husband, Ben, and I must be the people who determine what to buy for our family during our occasional shopping trips -- not advertisers and the designers of a store circular.

I've often wondered what would happen if each of my family members made a wish list while quietly chatting with each other in front of the fireplace one evening, and then made another list while perusing store circulars. I think the latter set of wish lists would include a heavy dose of items that manufacturers and retailers wanted us to see -- not necessarily things we would think of on our own.

I try to avoid sales -- and recreational shopping -- for these very reasons. Chances are very good that when I eventually need a new printer or want a new kitchen set, I will find a sale somewhere, and buy those items when the timing is right for me -- but not because I think the price is going up next week. Sales, however, expose me to hundreds of potential impulse buys.

This fall, Ben and I were suckered by an "invitation" to a "private sale" at an Ethan Allen location that was closing. The wording conveyed almost desperation -- floor samples were all "drastically" reduced. Special discounts would apply to special orders made at that location only, it said. Even better, the sale was not open to the general public -- just lucky Ethan Allen customers, such as myself, and our relatives.

More Website Updates

I've spent several hours a day over the last week updating the website. I've added pages for discount televisions, discount men's suits, and discount blankets among many other categories. Now I'm waiting for my web developer to add products to the website.

On a more exciting note, as of Sunday I've made some major moves for my target key phrase "discount shopping". The last time I checked I had moved up to number 53 on Google -- a move of nearly 50 positions in just a few days! This is exciting news because "discount shopping" is searched tens of thousands of times each month. If I can move into the top 10, I should start to see major revenue coming through the site.

I may be a little too late for the Christmas rush but I'm excited to see how things continue to pan out.
