Online Shopping - Not Our Thing

Brought to you by eHalfOff.com, a website dedicated to discount shopping.

Shoppers in Wales are the most unlikely in Britain to buy their goods online, says a new survey.

Nine per cent of the Welsh log on to get their weekly bread, milk and essential items, compared with 42% in Northern England, 36% in Southern England and 13% in Scotland.

As part of the MyVoucherCodes.co.uk survey online shoppers were asked to list what they had spent the most money on over the course of the last year and the results showed 31% had bought holidays, 24% purchased electrical items such as TVs or PCs, 21% had purchased a car, 18% now do their weekly shopping online and 4% bought sporting equipment.

The survey revealed that online shoppers need to brush up on their knowledge of security as nearly 35% could not correctly identify the features they should be looking for on a secure site such as a padlock and the HTTPS text in the web address field.

The bad news for those interested in increasing awareness of how to buy safely is that 8% of people asked thought that a site was safe as long as it had the credit or debit card logo somewhere on the page.

When it comes to reasons for choosing one site over another for a purchase 39% said price was the number one factor, with 26% saying a reliable brand, 19% saying security of the site, 7% actually listening to their friends or word of mouth, 5% said stock availability and 3% said returns policy.

MyVoucherCodes.co.uk is just over 6 months old and in that time over half a million people have visited the site to find the latest big name retail discounts and 45,000 people have signed up to receive the discount alerts newsletters.

Discount Shopping Website - Next Steps

Life has been very slow going with my discount shopping website. I’ve only posted a few items over the last few weeks and my promotion, with this blog and in other places, has slowed to a halt. However, all of that is about to change.

I currently am running an ad on Scriptlance.com looking for someone to add 150-200 products for me. This will greatly increase my website’s exposure and, by offering more products like furniture, games, and linens, I’ll start to show up on the search engine rankings.

I plan to start promoting the stink out of the website once those products are up and running.
